The course provides a concise-encyclopedic summary of basic blockchain concepts and briefly explains how a particular blockchain feature enables new application areas.

The course targets professionals and is very accessible to everybody interested in blockchains.

There are no specific prerequisites for the course but a technical/IT background would enable to understand the learning material faster.

  • Content

    The course is structured as a short “user manual” for blockchain projects. The learning material covers basic concepts, main blockchain “infrastructures” (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Hyperledger Fabric, R3 Corda, Iota, Hashgraph), decision tools to evaluate blockchain technology suitability as a solution for a particular project and applications areas with implementation challenges. The course was created in 2018 and some reference examples evolved (slock.it became blockchains.com), new blockchain solutions appeared, which could be updated.

  • Technology

    The course very briefly explains – mainly just summarizes the most important blockchain concepts. Some blockchain elements are clarified in the application context.

  • Applications

    The course presents decision tools to evaluate blockchain technology suitability as a solution for a particular problem. During the course blockchain application opportunities in financial sector, internet of things (IoT), smart grids, supply chains, healthcare, media, public and legal sectors are briefly reviewed.

  • Delivery

    The learning material is primarily presented as video lessons with a possibility to download slides summarizing the topics presented. Each lesson is followed by a short quiz that tests the understanding of new concepts. Links to the (external) reading texts related with more detailed explanations could be very useful for the learners seeking more in depth explanations. Learners have opportunity to discuss new concepts, ideas in the online discussion forums. The certificate-related exercises are available just in the paid version.
