The course discusses the ways individuals, companies raise money and how FinTech, Blockchains are changing the banking industry. The course starts with the principles of credit scoring and explains the advantages of peer-to-peer lending platforms. Later the focus shifts to opportunities to raise capital for startups by comparing, contrasting initial public offerings with initial coin offerings.

This is an introductory course that would be most valuable to entrepreneurs but everyone interested in learning more about old and new methods that are available to raise capital.

There are no prerequisites for this course. However, during credit scoring discussion linear, logistic regression results are used and therefore the basic econometric knowledge would be helpful.

    The course is structured as the "old" versus "new" ways to raise money, where "new" represents the recent FinTech innovations. In the first part on loans the discussion compares banks, credit bureaus with LendingClub, an American peer-to-peer lending company. No blockchain based lending platforms mentioned. In the second half IPOs (Initial Public Offering) are compared with crowdfunding platforms and blockchain based ICOs (Initial Coin Offering).

    The course is mainly about the ways to raise capital and the technology part enters into the discussion just indirectly. The most technical topics discussed are related to credit scores, loan pricing as well as some aspects related to ICOs (Initial Coin Offering).

    The course explains very well the mechanics behind the lending process that includes the loan default estimation, loan interest rate calculation and covers main lending players with the main interactions involved.
